Dr. Seuss Thing Two and Thing One Whirly Fun Game

Designer: Prospero Hall

Adapting a beloved children’s book into a board game was an exciting challenge. Early on, it was decided that the game should be toyetic and -after some exploration- we landed on the the fun idea of Thing Two and One being represented by a chaotically spinning top, launched into a miniature house and knocking over furniture in their wake. The players then had to try to get the house cleaned up before mom returned home. The Thing Two and Thing One Whirly Fun Game ended up being an immersive experience!

As a Product Designer on this game, my contributions included:

  • Developing the “gameboard in a box” concept, including the wall inserts and external path.

  • Creating the play pattern, balancing the tension of the destructive Thing top, against the mom mover getting closer and closer to the front door.

  • Researching and sourcing various tops, and ways of launching it into the house.

  • Designing game packaging.

  • Design game components, including repurposing class Dr. Seuss art and creating matching art.

  • Working with a 3D artist and factory to develop both the plastic furniture pieces and Thing top.
